WILL WEARING A HEADSET MAKE ME NAUSEOUS?
It depends on the individual. We do everything we can to make our projects tolerable, but if you do end up feeling queasy please let us know.
We will provide a handy bucket in the event of any and all accidents.
DO I NEED TO INCLUDE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN A STUDY?
Depending on the study, we might collect some personal information regarding age, gender, ethnicity, etc. However we take data collection and privacy really seriously. Electronic information will be stored on servers located specifically within Canada and will not travel outside our borders. Physical data has a cool little filing cabinet on campus with a lock.
WILL I BE COMPENSATED FOR PARTICIPATING IN A STUDY?
It depends on the resources we have on hand at the time. If you're a KPU student, you can be compensated with bonus credit (see your course syllabus for details). If we do offer a tangible form of compensation it will be listed in our study. However, if you count the warm fuzzy feeling of helping a bunch of undergraduate students with our projects we've worked so hard on, the reward is knowing you've done a good service and helped us earn our (metaphorical) wings.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A STUDY?
It depends on the study, but most shouldn't take any longer than half an hour to a full hour. We'll also provide an estimated time to you along with the study.
WILL I NOT BE COMPENSATED IF I WANT TO STOP MID-WAY DURING A STUDY
Psychology has come a long way since locking people in basements to play jail. From the moment you sign up for a study you can cancel at any time for whatever reason, and you will still be granted the original compensation.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN A LAB?
If you plan to participate in research, the introductory courses to research and statistics are recommended. However, if you want to join the lab for a different reason all you need is yourself and your enthusiasm to do something awesome!
WHERE CAN I FIND THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY I PARTICIPATED IN?
If you let us know of your interest, we'll keep your contact information on file and we'll send you a line when our study gets published.
IS THE CAKE REALLY A LIE?
Regardless of the truthiness of the cake, you can rest assured that science will still be done for the people who are still alive. 🎂
